Cookbook Giveaway!

Remember this post?

My dessert making yesterday reminded me how I actually really like making desserts. There's something ritualistic about it, cathartic even. More than the food itself, it's the act, and the giving that I like. Of course, it can't hurt if the food is deliciously good AND vegan too.

Which leads to me the subject of this post: book giveaway!

I have a brand-new extra copy of Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World, by Isa Moskowitz & Terry Romero, that I'm going to give away in this blog's first ever drawing (applause)!
This cookbook doesn't exactly include health food recipes, but I'm not against treats now and again (which does not mean everyday, fyi!), and I think you should be able to whip up a vegan something that is beautiful and delicious for birthday parties and other special events that you know everyone will love. A lot of people sort of think that once you become a whole fooder and/or vegan, not an ounce of sweetness will grace your lips again because you can't make any treat without milk, eggs, cream and other dairy products. Simply not true! And this cookbook will show you how. It even includes a few gluten-free recipes.
The winner of the drawing will get the book in addition to a veganized version of their favorite recipe. I understand that might be a sacrilege to some of you (veganizing my favorite cheesecake! ack!), however I think a lot of you want to know how to make a healthified or veganized versions of your favorite desserts but don't have a clue as to how to do it.
In order to enter, do the following:

1. Leave a comment. On this post and then on any other post from now through July 31st.

2. If you follow my blog leave a comment telling me you do. If you don't follow the blog, become a whole foods follower (click on the fans button on the left hand sidebar).

3. In the comments section of this post, tell me why you love to eat/make desserts. What is your favorite dessert and why? What good memories do you associate with making/eating that particular dessert?

4. Leave a separate comment for each entry to better your chances (up to 5).
5. Make sure to leave a way for me to contact you in case you don't check back when I announce the winner. If the initial winner doesn't respond within 48 hours I'll draw someone else.
Giveaway will end July 31, so make sure you enter before then.
I will announce the winner August 1.

i'm already a follower, of course

    I LOVE all desserts!
my fond memories are over my mom baking chocolate chip cookies and me getting to "help" when I was little...I got to lick the spoon and bowl and eat some dough..then fresh warm cookies out of the oven...mmmmmmmmmm

my new memories are baking with my kids for special occasions

i have no vegan baking books and have only tried a couple recipes thus far and they actually turned out well!

  2. Me too! I just hope I can remember everything that is required.

First, I LOVE desserts. I mean really, who doesn't? I love the chocolate cupcake recipe from that cookbook but right now I'm hooked on a fat free, whole wheat banana bread recipe I bought from Happy Herbivore. I think this is the 7th time I've made it and I plan on making more to take to people and to take with me when we go on vacation all of next week.

My favorite memory associated with this is putting Ella in the bumbo and having her watch me make it. She loves it too and eats just about as much of it as I do. :)

    And I'm already a follower too. :)

  3. I have this book on hold at our local library. I enjoy baking treats for my family and friends. I have recently been experimenting with gluten free cooking as my niece has celiac disease. I enjoy your blog and have started following it. I relate so much to your previous beliefs about your body and wonder if similar changes may happen to mine as I journey along on a whole foods path.

  4. I don't have a blog, sorry!
Desserts are the funnest part of working in the kitchen! It's always fun to try new recipes, especially experimenting with whole foods dessert recipes. It's the best when it's a keeper for the whole family.

  5. Ooo! I want it! I follow your blog and benefit greatly from many of your recipes :) Personally, desserts make me happy. I dont eat sugar so love to find great ways to make my fruit into a dessert! My favorite dessert is anything with chocolate in it or a peach upside down cake. Oh man.

  6. Oooh! I'd love one! I just had this out from the library and read it cover to cover immediately. I only had the chance to make 2 batches of cupcakes before it was due back, so I'd definitely like one of my own.

I've never been to your blog before - I just learned about it on a forum where we were discussing this book. But I've already become a follower and added you to my google reader. Looks like a great blog!

I'm a new vegan, so I don't have any particular favorite vegan desserts yet, but really I'm an equal opportunity dessert lover so I want to try them all!

  7. Gimme gimme!

Favorite dessert ... favorite dessert ... only one favorite dessert?

Lately my favorite thing to make are these a-mazing "healthy" vegan carrot cookies I found on 101 cookbooks. They rock my socks off.

I shall commence my official following now.

  8. ok this is lame to admit, but i don't even own a cookbook, let alone a vegan cookbook! i would LOVE to win. we are big cupcake fans around here.

the only dessert i really know how to make is apple crisp. it is my family's favorite desert and when ever i feel a little homesick some apple crisp usually makes me feel better.

i think that is one thing i love about food, it really can comfort (of course we need to be careful with that). good food not only helps keep our bodies healthy, it can ease troubled minds.

i got around to making the vegetable lasagna you posted about several weeks ago. it was DELICIOUS. even my picky eater--not so into eating meals without meat--liked it! thanks for the recipe.

i'm going to become a follower on your blog as well.

my email is mercedeswhite@gmail.com (just in case)

  11. I am not a huge dessert fan, although when there is an event I LOVE to have a beautiful piece of artwork - AKA dessert. For Sadie's 1st birthday my sister and I made an out of the box cake, but it looked fantastic, because the frosting was made from marshmallow fondant - do they make vegan marshmallows? haha. Anyway, it was so pretty. I'm doing it again for my sisters baby shower. Can't wait to see how much she loves to look at it herself.

  12. Hey, I just discovered your blog and signed up as a fan. I'm trying to expand the range of vegan blogs that I visit and yours looks like it aligns with my interest in super healthy eating.

One of my favourite deserts that I just discovered is Mark Bittman's chocolate tofu pudding - it is killer! It tastes just like a dense, flourless cake but it's healthier because it's mostly tofu. I cut back on the amount of sugar that he uses because I don't like super sweet desserts.

I also like the idea of making cupcakes. ;)

  13. of course, I am already a fan!

And of course I love desserts! I think that has been the most difficult thing about transitioning to a healthier lifestyle... who will rid me of this meddlesome sweet tooth! Ad while these are not health food, they are definitely healthier than the alternative oil laden and refine sugar pumped cousins.

    Gimme that cookbook! :)

  14. i'm not a follower but i will be!

i love deserts and i love HEALTHY deserts.

old memory- we used to have have a black forest cake from a special bakery for my great-grandpa's birthday every year. he was from germany.

new memory- the first time i made avocado chocolate pudding and my kid liked it and i realized sweets _can_ be healthy.

i received the veganomicon cookbook as a gift from my sister in-law two years ago and i've been coveting the cupcake book ever since. those girls are GOOD!

  15. four more comments :)

i love to eat and make healthy deserts, no processed sugar or any sweeteners besides maple syrup or honey because it helps my kids not feel so left-out from mainstream sweets. plus i'm nourishing them with things their bodies need at the same time.

  16. "What is your favorite dessert and why?"

hmmm, my favourite desert would be peanut butter chocolate swirled fudge. pretty heavy on the dairy but it could be awesome vegan :)
