How to Grow Wheatgrass Successfully

Here is a picture of wheatgrass I recently purchased. A huge flat for $8 at my local health food store. Isn't it lovely?

Wheatgrass has some amazing healing properties and the juice of wheatgrass is nutritionally exceptional. I get a bit of wheatgrass in my shake every morning (it's in the JuicePlus Complete powder), but I've been needing an extra strength dosage (I got severely dehydrated after my half-marathon, and my kidneys are still recouping...I think I may have had a small kidney stone, but that's a different story for another post).

Here are some of the benefits of this amazing food:
  • One of the best sources of living chlorophyll available
  • Anti-bacterial
  • Assists in rebuilding red blood cells
  • Can assist in restoring fertility due to high magnesium content
  • Readily absorbs minerals from the soil
  • 30 year track record of helping people to recover from illness - foundation of many cancer-recovery centers
  • Incredible detoxifying agent - 15 pounds of wheatgrass is equivalent of 350 pounds of carrot, lettuce, celery, and other produce
  • Neutralizes toxins
  • Helps purify the liver
  • Improves blood sugar regulation
  • In a 1940 issue of The American Journal of Surgery, Dr. Benjamin Gruskin, M.D. recommended chlorophyll to clear up foul-smelling odors, neutralize staph infections, heal wounds, hasten skin grafting, cure chronic sinusitis, reduce varicose veins, treat cervical inflammation, reduce typhoid fever, among other things
  • Improves complexion
  • Improves strength, endurance, health
  • Improves digestion
  • Reduces high blood pressure (Source: Health Briefs Online, Volume 1, p. 147).

It's a pain to grow though. It gets moldy very easily and I've never been successful at keeping it alive and mold-free.

However, one of my Pilates students suggested that I try putting it by a fan in order to keep it mold-free. He said he was able to grow wheatgrass for 3 years straight without any problem by doing this. Side note, said student used wheatgrass and a raw foods diet after unsuccessful attempts to deal with cancer through radiation. The dietary changes worked wonders and he is now cancer-free.

I'm going to try using the fan and see if this does the trick. Perhaps this is the answer to growing wheatgrass succesfully. I'll let you know.

  1. I found good air circulation is a must-either a fan or window if there is a breeze. I just wish growing it didn't take up so much room!

  2. I appreciate that growing wheatgrass, and also juicing it is a pain!
I did that for over three years, on a scale sufficient to supply a lot of people with their daily shot.
However, I also came to realise the huge benefit that wheatgrass provides to many many people. Including me!
That's why I've teamed up with the guy who's producing it same way that I used to, using Ocean Solution to deliver the full mineral package to the plant, and therefore provide an even better nutritional load for the person.
We therefore package it in little tubes, which have shelf life of over two months, but preserve the initial freshness and perfection that we know wheatgrass provides. By packing seven of the tubes in a cardboard outer, we can therefore mail these to individuals, anywhere in North America, or the UK or Germany, and they can be posted through your normal mailbox.
Thought I'd let you know this, because all options are worth considering! I was always amazed how many people came to me to supply them with juice, bemoaning the time they used to spend both growing trays, doing the juicing, and then cleaning up.
we've also introduced broccoli sprout juice to our repertoire, not least for those poor people afflicted by cancer, as it has such a strong pedigree in providing the specific nutrients that those folk need.
Well done to you for maintaining a raw food diet, and stepping towards the best of health. You and your family.
