Further proof that the Bible can be used to back up any lifestyle/dietary choice:

I am am not advocating this way of eating, by-the-way.
I never cease to be amazed by the fact that there seems to be no end to ridiculous and outlandish diet schemes, this one included (I mean, check out the pictures of what you ought to eat for breakfast, lunch, and dinner! Really??).
That website was super-classy, so it must be legit, right?
ReplyDeleteThat food looked disgusting, and I like meat! But the idea that limiting fruit and vegatables in your diet is a good thing is beyond absurd. I have a much less PC idea on who this diet is marketed too, but I don't want to offend anyone readig this.
lol--you can find something to support anything on the internet
ReplyDeletesuch foolishness and disgusting--how awful you would feel eating that all day long
i did atkins once long ago and felt like my body was made of tar
i can understand that everyone won't be a vegetarian...but it would be hard to make it believable that you needed not even include vegetables??
My husband and I sat in silence and stared at the words on the screen... It should be illegal to parade such CRAP about the internet.
ReplyDeleteI thought it was funny when he said "Your doctor might strongly object..."
That statement's stupidity is self-explanatory.
Hi JaNae,
ReplyDeleteThis comment is totally off topic, but wasn't sure how to ask you otherwise.
I've been cutting out dairy and meat altogether at home, and almost completely at restaurants and guest's homes. I was looking at the almond milk I put in my husband's smoothie this morning and noticed there was no calcium in it, and that got me thinking about a lot of things. How can I be sure I'm getting enough protein (we do eat a lot of legumes), calcium, iron and other important nutrients that we often get from dairy and meat? I'm afraid I'm not getting enough calcium now that I don't have milk or cheese or yogurt, although I do eat this delicious coconut milk yogurt. Anyway, just was wondering if there is a post that addresses this issue, or if you could give me a super quick run down of how you ensure you and your family are getting all the vitamins, minerals and other nutrients you need. Thanks so much!

Emalei - I know Janae will respond, but after reading your comment, I thought I would share that I remembered Janae's post from last year on the same topic, i.e. concern that veganism doesn't equate proper protein consumption. It can be found at http://veganmothering.blogspot.com/2009/04/protein-vitamin.html.
ReplyDeleteIn addition, there is a website that lists out protein content in fruits and vegetables. http://www.dietaryfiberfood.com/protein/protein-content-vegetables-fruits.php
After reading this and seeing the pictures of the food I thought one word: CONSTIPATION! That is so disgusting! How can anyone think a diet without veggies is healthy?
ReplyDeleteEmalei: I dedicated my post today to your question. Hope it helps!
ReplyDeleteI shudder at the 'high-protein' diets - sure they drop the pounds off fast, because your body can't store the extra protein and meat fills you up. The catch is that the extra protein has to go somewhere = out through the kidneys.
ReplyDeleteIn med school, I remember a lady whose kidney function lab test showed a loss of about 80% of her kidney function after less than a year on strict Atkins diet.
Not to mention how much calcium the body pulls from your bones to neutralize the tons of extra amino ACIDs the kidneys are washing out. If you're curious, look up studies documenting the huge rise in urine calcium with high protein diets.
It's a HUGE trade-off health-wise to lose weight. A vegan diet is so much more healthy and sustainable. . . but so many people can't give up the taste of meat and dairy, even if it kills them.
I wish people would take a look at the science before they jump onto diets like this one!
