As mentioned in last post, we had quite the family weekend.
Saturday was a change of pace for us. Relaxed. Nowhere we had to go. I like these kind of days. They allow for an intuitive, free-flowing type of structure that I often crave during the weekdays of structure and classes, obligations and meetings.
After a day's worth of activity, the kids fell asleep in the car on the way home from the park. It took all of two minutes.
I love it when they sleep. Even (or especially) if it is in an upright position.
My sister-in-law Alice, is British. Is it just me, or do the Brit's have the upper-hand when it comes to poise and charm? I suppose it has something to do with that distinguished way of pronouncing words like "tea" and "for."

My kids try to imitate her accent. It makes me laugh to hear a six year old attempt a British accent.
Alice is Mali's favorite aunt, I think. Alice plays Barbies with her and does her hair.
Here they are, picnic at the park.

Salem creeps, climbs, crawls (but she doesn't walk consistently, yet.).
Unlike Mali when she was her age, she is not content to observation. She must move. I think she gets that from me.
Here, she peeps through the playground bars, and eyes her brothers (whom adore her).
I have to show you Joseph's hair. He doesn't know if he should cut it. I tell him I like it long. And if the JAG thing pans out, he'll sport a short do soon enough.
I say, wear it long while you can.

Part of the day's amble, was a hike up and down the crooked and uneven mountain path (was it even a path? I'm not sure), and then through a dry creek bed.
Hyrum's hair is also long. I don't mind. Although it may all come off come summer.

A parade of devoted followers. What more could one person want?
Signs of spring here. See? Winter doesn't last forever.

While I miss Washington state's evergreens, Utah, I've recognized, has it's own beauty.
1) The chance to carry children on your shoulders (or watch your spouse do it). A sliver of time in their life when you can do this.
2) Singing innocent kiddie songs.
We sing the same ABC songs, over and over while in the car (a mini-van, I should mention). Asher insists on listening to his favorite song each time we go anywhere. I know "Kitten Kaboodle" by heart.

What a beautiful post! It brought tears to my eyes, especially the "hold hands and follow dad" - it`s great to have a husband who loves and leads :).

I love the photo following dad... so adorable.
ReplyDeleteAnd Salem COULD NOT be any more adorable! Oh my gosh. So. Darn. Cute.
Your family is so beautiful, Janae! I love that your sister in law and Mali have a special relationship. Our friends' toddler and I are in complete adoration of each other, and nothing could make me happier. Being an aunt is awesome!
ReplyDeleteBecca: Aw shucks, I try not to be too sappy, but I can't deny I an overabundance of opportunities to do so :). Happy you were touched.
ReplyDeleteLfwfv: Thanks. But I was noticing how, if you look at my children's clothing, they are certainly not stylish or the most well-dressed. I guess I was thinking that, because I read a lot of design, fashion blogs, you know where the kids are always impecabely clean and fashionable (think baby J.Crew), which I think sounds like a nice idea, but is sooo not my world right, nor is it likely ever to be.
Melissa: It's true. Joseph is hands down the kids favorite. They always love me when their babies (cause I've got the milk), but then they grow up and realize Joseph is much cooler.
Joy: So fun you have a little one in your life. Don't they make life so much better? They help keep things in proper perspective.
I loved this post. How precious are these memories. It's so great that the kids will be able to look back on these special times. There is nothing more precious than the love of a child, and you have an abundance!!
ReplyDeleteJoya: I know. Sometimes I worry that I missing things. Time goes so quickly, and I don't want to look back and wish I had done things differently. I'm sure there will inevitably be some of that, but as a whole, I want to make sure I'm in my kids lives and really enjoying the time.
ReplyDeleteI just discovered your blog - not sure what took me so long! - and have enjoyed reading through it. I appreciated reading your thoughts on your faith regarding veganism.
ReplyDeleteJenny: Hello! Glad to have you stop by.
ReplyDeleteNoticed you have a blog yourself. Do you have a RS feed? I'd like to subscribe but I couldn't find it anywhere.
