My Vegan Sista'

My sister, hubby, and their chubby vegan baby. I may be wrong, but I think she's holding a piece of tofu. Taken at a favorite local restaurant, Guru's, a veg-friendly place.

My sister Michelle is my best friend.

We're sisters, for sure.

We talk to each other nearly every day, sometimes 5 or 8 or 10 times throughout the day. I know I can call her up just to tell her what I ate for lunch. And she calls me up just to tell me some random thought that has popped into her head. We've had babies at the same time, and we try to hang out a whenever we can (glad she only lives 20 minutes away!).

The best thing about Michelle is that she has a good heart. She really cares about people, she is kind, and just a ton of fun to be around. Next to my husband, I think she is the person that knows me best. Not to mention she's gorgeous and has a contagious, uplifting spirit about her. People just can't help but love her.

Since we're both vegan (we made the transition together nearly about the same time and both lost a significant amount of weight at the same time), it's also fun to get together and try out new dishes and share new recipes. We help each other stay "on track" health-wise. She and I trained and ran a half-marathon together this summer. All of this is a far cry from our high school days when we'd go on "ice cream runs" to McDonald's or Dairy Queen almost every night (both of us are recovering junk-food addicts, ex-pseudo-members of the "overeater's club").

It's her birthday today, so I just want to wish her a happy birthday. So glad to have such a dear sister and friend in my life. What a blessing.

Happy Birthday Michelle!

  1. This is so special. I hope our daughters have close sister relationships when they are older. You are both so fortunate to have that close bond, and it's very cool that you made health transitions together. You are both gorgeous, btw. :)

p.s. you have a blog that brings us back for more!!

First of all, that is sooooo sweet! We don't express our feelings to each other very often, so that means a lot to me. I almost cried. almost, I say, because you and I don't cry... at least very often. On a lighter note.... Dreena Burton commented on your post... about us? We are almost famous now. Maybe it's another dreena. cool.

  3. OMG - how could I have forgotten it was Michelle's Birthday! What a terrible cousin I am. :)
Very sweet post, Janae. I agree, Michelle's nature is infectious... and clearly her children have inherited that quality. (Lucky them!) Happy Birthday!!

  5. I just read this 9 months after, I think I inherited the crying gene that both you and Michelle don't have! Wish I were closer! Made the mock sour cream the other day and LOVE it! Thanks for the great recipe ideas!
