And good news, MINI-DRAWING!
The good people at Clean Cravings, sent me an extra package of the JUST CRUST MINIS, so I'll be sending that on to one lucky blogreader. If you'd like to be the recipient of these JUST CRUST MINIS, make a comment at the end of this post and tell me your favorite autumn-time tradition. I will draw the winner after 24-48 hours of posting this.

Dr. Popper continues part 2 of flu in volume 7, issue 40 of her newsletter, so check it out if you are so inclined. For those of you concerned with her presentation of opinions with facts, you might find the following interesting. When questioned about the objectivity of her newsletter, Dr. Popper, in an email to me, responded with this:
People subscribe to my newsletter specifically because they are interested in myOne, last thing I'd like to share with you, on a more sober note.
opinions on a variety of topics. My opinions are based on my research,
which I generally supply unless it is clear that I am writing an editorial about
a particular topic. An individual who is not interested in my opinion is
probably not a good candidate for this particular newsletter and may be better
off getting information from another source.
My brother (I'm lucky to have four of them!) and his wife, have a darling little baby, about 8 months old, named Emmet (yes, thank you Stephanie Meyers). He is chubby, and cuddly, good-natured and happy nearly all of the time. He has a contagious smile that stretches from ear to ear. He is a special little guy. Two days ago however, he became very cranky, lethargic, clearly not feeling or doing well. They took him to the E.R. then later flew him to hospital in the Seattle area for better medical diagnosis and treatment because of his worsening condition. What the doctors there concluded is that he has ADEM disease, and autoimmune disorder that potentially could cause irreversible neurological damage. There is no medication for this is it viral, not bacterial (kind of like how antibiotics don't cure the flu virus). Read more about ADEM disease here.
If you are a religious/spiritual person, please pray for this little guy. I know this isn't a faith-based blog per se, but it would really mean a lot to all those who are connected to this family and little boy to have the prayers and thoughts of you good people. Even though you don't know my brother or this sweet little boy personally, please, if you have the time, send my brother, Loren [LorenAnderson(at)hotmail(dot)com] a line or two (let him know you read my blog) letting him know that you're thinking/praying for his little boy.
Thank you, it means the world to me and to them to know that people care.
Hi, I'm so sorry to hear of your nephews illness; I hope he can recover and smile again.
ReplyDeleteFavourite Fall activity: running on dry wind-blown red leaves on a clear Fall evening and hearing them crunch beneath my feet...
That Clean Cravings line looks fantastic! Thanks for bringig them to my attention :)
I'll be praying for the precious little one.
ReplyDeleteWe love to have bonfires in the fall, we have family and friends over, roast veggie dogs, sing and play music and sometimes have hayrides for the kids.
I will say a prayer for Emmett and your family.
ReplyDeleteWe like to go on a hayride to pick a pumkin from the pumkin patch at the Red Barn in Santaquin.
PS ADEM is linked to vaccines, did he also get vaccines or not. Just curious, all my kids have had vaccines all these yrs.
ReplyDeletei'm so sorry to hear about emmett...sending prayers for sure! how terribly scary! keep us posted on what they find out..i will have to read up on adem, i'm not familiar with it
ReplyDeletevaccines...refused mine yesterday at work (hosptial) had to talk to the head health nurse who told me i must get it. i had to give her all my reasons and listen to a scare tactic lecture out how i could seriously harm my three beautiful children as well as patients at our hospital (this is a woman i know pretty well). the form i had to sign listed all the "scare" statistics as well as how much of a liability we could be to our patients. also had an email saying we could fire you for not getting this, but we won't...
it was pressure to the max
i can't say it didn't make me question myself when people were lining up in droves and thinking i'm nuts while i've had a niece get influenza a and a girl in my daughters class this past week.
just gotta keep myself healthy. but wanted to touch back on the "pressure" topic earlier--there was tons of it.
autumn
my favorite tradition is carving pumpkins in our front yard with my kids and all our dogs hanging around. then taking the annual dog/child family picture that gets more impossible each year as the number of kids goes up and dogs remains at half a dozen
We don't have an official tradition yet, but I like the ideas listed so far! We do rake big leave piles and carve pumpkins every year though. It's great fall fun! I like the bonfire idea.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed Pam Popper's article. We definately don't do flu shots. I think they can trigger too many autoimmune problems. I'd rather risk the flu than deal with an autoimmune disease my whole life.
Prayers for the cute little guy.
