Vegan Ranch Dressing Mix

Ever wonder why ranch dressing is such an across the board favorite?

It is rich and creamy (who doesn't LOVE that?), but I think the thing that makes it a real crowd pleaser is the combination and right amount of herbs, sugar, and salt.

Vegan ranch is sometimes hard to come by, but I found a recipe a few years ago, when I was just starting my vegan way of eating, in one of my favorite cookbooks 7 Secrets Cookbook, by Jim and Neva Brackett. I use a bit more sugar, more parsley, I don't use celery salt (lowers sodium content), and I add celery seed instead.

I like using this mix to make my own ranch dressing, but I also use it when making dressings and dips as well as things unexpected like chili! It's just a great blend of flavors, you almost can't go wrong with it.

You can buy packets of ranch mix at the store, but I have a few problems with them: 1) Product contains milk. 2) Many contain msg. 3) Simple truth is I can make my own mix at a lower cost and doesn't take very much time.

Note: Don't be scared of the poppy seeds, I know it's kind of unconventional, but they work well in this mix, you're going to have to trust me.

Vegan Ranch Dressing Mix

  • 1/4 c. onion powder
  • 1 TBS. celery seeds
  • 3 TBS. dried parsley
  • 1 TBS. poppy seeds
  • 1 TBS. dill weed
  • 2 tsp. garlic powder
  • 2 tsp. sweet basil
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 1/2 TBS. sugar
Mix all ingredients together and store in an airtight glass jar. (Try using this mix in my Creamy Parsley dressing.)

  2. This looks amazing! I've been pretty happy with my own homemade ranch, but the spices in yours are more diverse. I'll give it a try as soon as I run out of my stash.

  3. Yes I love this mix and the recipe for the dressing. We use it all the time, since I purchased 7 Secrets over a year ago per your recommendation.

  4. My son is going to love this :)... He refuses all dressing, except ranch and buying it vegan at the store can be rather expensive, so this is great. Thanks!

  5. Time out!

What do I mix with this to make it an actual dressing (and not just a powdery mix)?

    Looks great!

  6. Zinke: Great question.

    To make ranch dressing:

1 heaping TBS. of ranch mix, 1 cup of non-dairy mayo (there are a ton of vegan ones store bought & home made, out there), 1 TBS. of lemon juice, 1/4 c. of milk (plain, unsweetened, non-dairy). Add 1-2 TBS. of water if you want it less thick.
